Jean-Rémy Moët assumed control of the House. His lifelong goal was “to share the magic of champagne with the world”. He improved grape growing and winemaking techniques, extended the cellars and acquired the House’s first vineyards.

MOËT & CHANDON WAS BORN

Jean-Rémy Moët handed over control of the company to his son, Victor, and his son-in-law, Pierre-Gabriel Chandon. The House was renamed Moët & Chandon.

THE BIRTH OF "IMPERIAL"

Christened “Moët & Chandon Brut Imperial”, the House flagship champagne were first shipped in 1869, the year which coincided with the 100th anniversary of Napoleon’s birth.

FORT CHABROL

Raoul Chandon de Briailles created the first viticulture research laboratory and grafting school of champagne, the Fort Chabrol, in his successful effort to eradicate phylloxera.
