NEWTON SINGLE VINEYARD MOUNT VEEDER
THE ICON OF NAPA VALLEY
At Newton, we believe in precision viticulture
– bespoke management not just of specific plots,
but also individual vines
– with the aim of expressing the true character of the fruit
and maximizing the potential of the vineyard as a whole.
Peter Newton, already renowned as a pioneer of winemaking in the Napa Valley
for having founded the Sterling Winery near Calistoga in the 1960s,
founded Newton Vineyard with his Chinese wife in 1977.
The Newtons transformed one square mile of rolling hillside in Spring Mountain
into one of the Napa Valley’s most prestigious estates,
whose wines have graced the official dinners of several US presidents.
Peter and Su Hua Newton released their first wine, a Cabernet Sauvignon, in 1979.
They went on to pioneer an innovative approach to winemaking, notably championing unfiltered wine,
which they believed uniquely expressed the full essence of the fruit.
Their first such wine – Unfiltered Chardonnay, inspired by Burgundian winemaking techniques
– was released in 1990 and quickly became a signature of the estate.

NEWTON UNFILTERED
CABERNET SAUVIGNON- Once harvested, our cabernet sauvignon grapes are sorted using an optical sorter that inspects individual berries to ensure uniform, perfect ripeness. The juice must then undergoe a cold maceration followed by fermentation. The wine then rests on the skins to develop additional complexity before being pressed and aged in French oak barrels. This Unfiltered Cabernet Sauvignon expresses perfect balance and intensity. The palate is concentrated and intense with hints of black current, mulberry and aged tobacco. Firm, savory tannins and mineral notes round out the palate of this powerful, robust wine.

MOUNT VEEDER- Rugged and steep, our Mt. Veeder vineyard is comprised on 20 blocks spread out over 50 acres. The Cabernet Sauvignon grown in that vineyard has a fine structure and classic Cabernet aromas and flavors, such as red and black fruit and tobacco. Mount Veeder with its longer growing season and youthful free draining soils captures the minerality and vibrancy of Cabernet Sauvignon most accurately with the most intense black cassis fruit and firm sinewy graphite structure.
